A Study on Stress of Emergency Room Patient's Family

Abstract
This study was designed to find stress level events related to the experience of emergency room patient's families and to offer nursing intervention in order to reduce the stress of patient's families.
Questionnaires were distributed to 156 patient's families coming to emergency room of C university hospital from October 7 to 22 in 1992.
Analysis of data was used CSS-PC, mean for stress level, the relationship between patient's families characteristics and stress were analyzed by using t-test ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficient.
@ES The result of this study were as follows:
@EN the level of stress factor were in sequence ; stress related physical state and disease(M=6.70, SD=0.81), stress related lack of information & supporting resources(M=3.26, SD=0.86), stress related process of nursing care and treatment(M=3.26,
SD=0.90), stress related surrounding of hospital(M=3.11, SD=0.77), stress related medical team(M=3.07, SD=0.82), stress related family itself's problem(M=3.05, SD=0.95). The most serious components of stress were in sequence ; delay in the
patient's
cure and care(M=3.73, SD=1.18), no detailed explanation about the treatment and tests(M=3.59, SD=1.29), the patient's pain about tests and operation(M=3.59, SD=1.35), difficulty to meet doctor(M=3.56, SD=1.24), can not knowing the
diagnosis(M=3.42,
SD=1.40).
In analyzing the relation between the general characteristics and the state stress, visiting times(t=5.142, P=0.025), the reason for being in hospital(F=3.66, P=0.027), and the examination process(F=4.30, P=0.014) showed a statistically
significant
difference.
In conclusion the emergency room patient's family experiences a high level of state stress and perceives various stress components.
Therefore, it appears that considering the level of stress and the components of stress of family would be necessary for on improved efficient nursing intervention in order to prevent or reduce the stress of families.
